My daughter got picked up for shoplifting $30 worth of merchandise in a store. After she was caught she offered to pay for the items she took, but the owners refused to accept her money. (It was the first time she had ever been picked up for shoplifting.) Instead, they put a restraining order on her, denying her the privilege of shopping in any if their stored for the rest of her life! (They are a part of a large national chain.)
My poor daughter is a wreck. She’s manic-depressive and has been under the care of a psychiatrist for the last four years.
I could understand them fining her maybe $100 and barring her from shopping that store for six months or a year, but for them to bar her from shopping at any of their stores for life seems terribly harsh to me.
There are video cameras all over the stores so customers can be observed while they shop. I think there should be signs posted advising the customers that they are being videotaped.
