Lesson45: MAY AND MIGHT
 
We use may or might to say that something is a possibility.

Examples:
It may be true.
She might know.
I might be true. (=perhaps it is true)

Positive:
I + may be /might be (tired/hungry/home etc.)
He/she/it + may be/ might be(doing/coming/joking, etc.)
We/you/they + may/ might be (do/get/know/have)

Negative:
I + may not be /might not be (tired/hungry/home etc.)
He/she/it + may not be /might not be (doing/coming/joking, etc.)
We/you/they + may not be /might not be (doing/coming/joking, etc.)


Examples:

1.I wonder why she didn’t answer the phone. She may have been asleep.
2.She might not have known about it.
3.It might not be true.
4.I may not have enough.
5.I may be wrong.
Exercise 1: Write these sentences in a different way using may or might.

1.Perhaps Elizabeth is in her office. She might be in her office or She may be…
2.Perhaps Elizabeth is busy. ________________________________

Van: She did not come to see me today. She may have been sick.
Sheila: Are you sure about that?
Van: I don’t know. Perhaps she is just busy with her school work,
or she may have been into some new tutorial lesson.
Shiela: Did you wait for her that long?
Van: Yes. I waited at the doorstep but she didn’t come.
